Traveling Sprinklers

1. My sprinkler is moving backwards.
A: If the sprinkler is traveling backwards, you most likely have your spray arms on incorrectly. The arms should both be facing outward and in the shape of a “Z” instead of an “S”.

2. My sprinkler is not moving.
A: The sprinkler needs to build up pressure in the hose before it begins to travel. Please allow a few minutes for this to happen. The sprinkler will travel very slowly-you can barely see it move. Walk away for 10-20 minutes and return to see if the sprinkler has traveled. If it has not, your sprinkler arms may be on incorrectly. Please refer to the instruction manual for proper installation instructions.

3. My sprinkler is making a clicking sound.
A: A clicking sound is a good indication that one of the internal gears has been stripped. Please contact the consumer service department to order the necessary parts for repair, or you can order online. You will need a new plastic motor assembly with shut-off, part number 77376.

5. Can the sprinkler be used on freshly seeded lawn or in my garden?
A: We recommend using the sprinkler on a well-established lawn only. The sprinkler wheels need an established root system in order to travel. If you use the sprinkler on any other surface, the unit may bog down or strip gears. The sprinkler cannot be used on concrete sidewalks, patios, etc… at any time.

6. My spray arms tips have come out-can I get replacements?
A: The spray arms tips are not available for replacement. You will need to order a spray arm assembly, part number 77506.

7. My sprinkler no longer oscillates.
A: You will most likely need to order a sprinkler repair kit, part number 77323, which includes the heart-shaped cam, the mechanism that controls the sprinkler's oscillation. However, if you hear a clicking sound, it may be necessary to order additional parts. Please refer to the online parts/price list.

8. Are current N055A parts compatible with my old Dial-A-Rain sprinkler?
A: Most of the parts are compatible, however, if your sprinkler is more than 10 years old, we may not be able to supply every part. We no longer have spray tubes available to fit the older style. For further information, please contact the Nelson Consumer Service department.

Simple Soaker

9. Can two Simple Soakers be used in series?
We recommend using the Simple Soaker individually. A loss of coverage distance results when multiple Simple Soakers are combined. 5 heads is the optimal number of heads for efficient operation. If you would like to water more than one area, we suggest using a “Y” connect and alternating water between two Simple Soaker systems.

10. How many heads can be used with a Simple Soaker ? (Can additional heads be added?)
In our testing, 5 is the optimal number of heads for most areas. If you have strong pressure and flow at your house, you may be able to add additional heads. Or if you are planning to water a smaller diameter area around each head, more heads can be added, but may reduce the coverage radius of each head.

11. Are other add-on accessories available for the Simple Soaker ?
There are some additional items listed on the instruction sheet included with the Simple Soaker . Those include: a timer for pre-set watering, additional goof plugs, extra risers, deflectors, additional heads and stakes to position the tubing.

12. When I turn on my Simple Soaker no water comes out. What’s wrong?
You need to adjust the heads on the nozzles so the spray comes out. Just turn them to the left to allow water to flow freely.

13. What should I do with my Simple Soaker in the winter?
You may leave your Simple Soaker outdoors, just detach the hose from the spigot. If you live in an area where freezing temperatures are likely to occur, we recommend storing the Simple Soaker nozzles/spikes indoors during winter. If water freezes inside the unit, damage can occur.

14. How many gallons per minute does the Simple Soaker use?
This depends on the above parameters as well as the number of heads used and the length of the tubing used. On average, 5 heads with 50’ of tubing use about 3-1/2 gallons/minute. Fewer number of heads reduces the gallons/minute used.
